We finally got our power back this afternoon, after losing it on Thurs. night. We were OK sleeping (2 regular comforters, a down comforter, a wool blanket, and approximately 80 pounds of cat got the job done pretty well), but by Saturday morning the house was just too d*mned cold to want to consider doing anything else in it. We ate out a lot, visited people, and came home to sleep.
High on my to-do list in a couple of weeks, after things have finished calming down, is investigating options for generators. In the past the fact that we're in the middle of Manchester has insured that we came back on line pretty quickly, even from bad storms. Evidently that has changed.
I'm figuring on getting a small generator, one that will keep the electric starter on the oil burner, the ignition on the gas stove, and maybe the freezers running. Everything else we can work around for extended periods if we need to. A heat source isn't optional in this area, and we have too many pets to just pack up and descend on some generous friend.
If anyone on my friends list knows a local generator seller/installer that they'd recommend, or has words wisdom to offer, please share.
