I just sent off another submission to Torquere, this one for their holiday story line. If accepted, it should be out some time in December.

This one is called "Private Performance". It's my first attempt at historical fiction. It's set in Dublin, Ireland in 1904. The characters in it are entirely new - Jason Goldsmith, a young actor, and Neil FitzHenry, a dock worker. This tells the tale of their first meeting, and their first Christmas Eve together. Jason has the notion that he will dress up in women's clothes, and they can spend the night on the town like any other courting couple. After all, he plays women's parts on the stage. But can he pull it off?

Excellent! (Here via Hayden) When it's up, I'll add it to Speak Its Name's list and I look forward to reading it. Always great to add a new gay historical title, particularly a YA.

Thanks. It's not officially been accepted yet, but I have high hopes.

What did I say that made you think it's a young adult? It's not as hot as some of the stories I've written for Torquere, but it's definitely adult. I'd give it a Chili Pepper on their heat rating scale.

I'm planning a much more ambitious story with these characters eventually, telling the story of the Easter Rising in 1916 through their eyes. I suspect it will be a couple of years before I get to working on that though. This short was a test drive for the characters.

Well, that's what Prizm is, isn't it? They call themselves a YA publisher!

Oh excellent - since I read At Swim Two Boys I've always like that as a gay fiction setting - look forward to it and good luck!

but if it's going to Torquere, then that's why I got my wires crossed. Silly me.

I see the confusion. Prizm is indeed a young adult line. However it's only a small part of Torquere's lineup. There's a full list here: http://www.torquerepress.com/submissions/index.html Most of their lines are very much adult material.

I'm not sure they're actually doing anything with the young adult line at the moment. Looking at the catalog on their web site, it didn't bring up any available titles. I've never really paid a lot of attention to that line - I got into working with them through writing erotica, and so far I've been going with things that fit their niche.

The 1916 novel may aim at a more mainstream publisher, and end up being less explicit, and more focused on the spiritual elements. (If you're not familiar with the period, there was a ton of magical and spiritual stuff going on, as well a political and literary events, and many of the major players were invovled in all three areas).
