hmmm.. passing (in a GLBT) context to ME implies "not out of the closet" or perhaps i should say "not obviously so"
if i had over heard this i would have simply assumed they meant he didnt "ping the gaydar" because of his non stereotypical attributes.
but then i tend to be rather oblivious....
i will also say that having had a few close friends and some distant relatives (mostly by marriage) who were in fact "passing" in one way or another ( by gender/sexuality/race) it neednt imply shame of their non obvious side.. it can be simple survival
a maiden aunt (ok, great mumble cousin really) of mine apparently lived with her female lover and it was something of an open secret in the family... but she passed as straight in public both because lesbianism wasnt a usual suspicion at the time and because she apparently deliberately cultivated a tragic past romance with a sailor who ran off on her at the altar (we have no evidence this ever existed)
this allowed her to live with her female "housemate" for over 20 years.... i have no reason to think she was "ashamed " of it juding from anything we have of records.. just safety conscious...
no subject
