I just got an email from my editor at Torquere telling me the release date for Embracing the Dragon has been moved up from April 27 to April 13. Ack!

I love the internet, and its various writing communities in particular - I posted to a couple of lists about how my promo dates were all now at least 2 weeks after the book releases, and now I have four more promo dates scheduled. I'll have a full list in another post later this week.

I'm also planning to have a short story, previously published by Torquere, as a promotional item when I'm out and about talking to people about Embracing the Dragon. Leap of Faith, which is set in the same world as Embracing the Dragon, and shares some characters with it, was originally issued by Torquere as part of the 2009 Charity Sip blitz. The rights came back to me in September of last year, and I've been debating what to do next with it. Then I started thinking about promotional give-aways and it was clearly a match made in heaven.

I've hooked up with a cover artist, Sheri McGathy (http://www.sherilmcgathy.com) who is hard at work on a wonderful cover for it, and am now working on figuring out how to get the text into various e-book formats.

The PDF should be pretty easy. If you download CUTEPDFWRITER which is free, it gets set up as a printer choice. Then whatever program you have the document open in, just get it set up however you like, choose print, then choose CutePDFWriter as the printer, and print. It will open a save box, just type in a filename, and voila. It saves the whole thing to a PDF. Works great.

This is for windows machines. There might be something similar out there for macs.

Then I'd say you could use calibre to convert it to epub. Don't know about other formats. Hope this helps.

I use Windows. I know it's a religious issue, but I've never really liked Macs. I want to be able to get under the hood, and the early Macs were very hard to do that with. The usual fix for something was to reinstall the OS. I hear they've gotten better, but PCs are still cheaper, and what I use at work, so....

Word comes with a PDF writing option, which seems OK. I'm playing with Calibre now. I just picked up a cheap E-Reader (a Kobo) yesterday. There's a Borders near us being liquidated, and a friend who's working there said they had E-readers at 50% off. So I snagged one for $49.99. It's not wonderful, and doesn't really handle anything but EPUB well, but for the price... So now I'm taking all the stuff I have as PDFs and trying out the conversion option in Calibre. It's not bad so far.

Also spent far too much on books at the Borders. And then we made a stop at two used book stores in town on top of that. But it made for a lovely day out with my wife too.
